RESOLUTION ECO 2/94

EDUCATION

THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY,

BASED ON the proposai of Commission III “Vitiuinicultural Economies ”following the Symposium held in Sienna, June 8, 1993,

CONSIDERING:

• the evolution of the viticultural situation worlwide,
• the necessity to adapt éducation to the qualitative and quantitative needs of the vine and wine sector,
• the specificity of the products of this sector and the difficulty of assuring their promotion without being familiar with the characteristics that distinguish them from each other and from other products,
• the necessity to develop disciplines in the sciences of management and marketing appropriate to the vine and wine sector,
• the interest in interdisciplinary studies in order to give to those educated in one field to have basic knowledge in other disciplines.

PROPOSES:

• that sinces the OIV has established the inventory of instruction in the vitivinicultural sector, to publish the results after consultation with the educational experts in order to encourage the work of professionnal educators, for the purposes of:
• determining the disciplines to be taught,
• considering the opportunity to harmonize the programs in vitivinicultural disciplines, other than the éducation of Enologists which has already been done,
• placing the différent levels of éducation in a hierarchy (pre-university, university and post- graduate) from the time of professional specialization up to doctorate and research,
• considering the opportunity to establish equivalency worldwide and to harmonize the qualifica­ tions and titles for diplomas,
• recognizing educational programs by a formai action by the OIV when they meet the condi­ tions defined by it,
• to promote worldwide coopération amongst educational institutions, the exchange of teachers and students and the création of scholarships.

RECOMMENDS that the Member States, take these proposais into considération.
