CARBON DIOXIDE BALANCE – WORKING METHODOLOGY

THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Following the proposal of the Scientific and Technical Committee and after learning of the works of the ad hoc group “Carbon Dioxide Balance” and the opinions of Commission I "Viticulture", Commission II "Oenology" and Commission III "Economy and Law",

NOTING RESOLUTION AGE 1/2008 adopting the OIV 2009-2012 Strategic Plan that includes an item to develop a methodology for the calculation of wine industry greenhouse gases.

NOTING the urgent need for developing an international and harmonised system for the calculation of the greenhouses gases emissions (in carbon equivalents) specific for the vitivinicultural sector,

RECOGNISING the work undertaken by OIV members States on Carbon Dioxide balance.

RECOGNISING specially the existence of the “International Wine Carbon Protocol” as a working tool under continuous improvement,

RECOGNISING the diverse and often conflicting approaches to Carbon Dioxide balance and greenhouse gases effects,

DECIDES to develop an International Protocol for the accounting of the greenhouse gas emissions  in grape and wine production,

DECIDES to develop an International Wine Carbon Calculator adaptable to each country’s situation
