Normal blood sugar levels vary from person to person, but the American Diabetes Association (ADA) recommends the following ranges:

  • Fasting plasma glucose: Less than 100 mg/dL
  • Postprandial plasma glucose: Less than 140 mg/dL

Monitoring and Maintaining Healthy Blood Sugar Levels

To ensure that your blood sugar levels remain within a healthy range, it's essential to monitor them regularly. You can do this at home using a glucometer or continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system.

These devices measure your blood glucose levels by pricking your finger with a lancet and applying the resulting blood sample to a test strip. The results are displayed on an LCD screen, allowing you to track your progress over time.

The Link Between Diet and Blood Sugar Levels

Diet plays a significant role in maintaining healthy blood sugar levels. Consuming high-carbohydrate foods can cause blood glucose levels to spike, while incorporating more protein and fiber-rich foods can help regulate them.
