According to the American Diabetes Association, the target hba1c for nonpregnant, healthy adults is 7% or lower. HbA1C calculates the average of the blood sugar levels for the past 3 months. Therefore, HbA1C is usually checked on a 3-month basis to monitor a patient's glycemic control. Unfortunately, there are some limitations, which include; acute or chronic blood loss, kidney disease, pregnancy, etc. Also, A1C does not provide the entire picture of a patient's diabetes control. It is limiting as how to check blood sugar level it does not provide information on when the patient's blood sugar levels may be going low or are too high. It is average and does not provide specifics.
