Type 2 diabetes has become a pandemic and is showing no signs of slowing down. Today, the estimated worldwide prevalence of type 1 and normal low blood sugar 2 diabetes is close to 300 million. This number is predicted to rise to 439 million by 2030, with type 2 diabetes accounting for about 90% of these cases. Individuals with type 2 diabetes are often told by their doctors that their disease can be effectively managed with healthy eating, regular exercise and blood sugar monitoring.
