A healthy blood sugar range varies from person to person, but generally speaking, the American Diabetes Association recommends that fasting plasma glucose (FPG) levels should be less than 100 mg/dL and postprandial glucose (PPG) levels after a meal should not exceed 140-180 mg/dL. But how do you know if your blood sugar range is within these limits? Monitoring techniques such as using a glucometer or continuous glucose monitor can provide accurate readings.
The Role of Diet in Blood Sugar Regulation
What we eat plays a crucial role in regulating our blood sugar levels. When we don't get sufficient sleep or have disrupted circadian rhythms, it can lead to increased insulin resistance and impaired glucose tolerance.
Maintaining a consistent bedtime schedule and ensuring you get at least 7-8 hours of quality sleep each night will help in regulating your blood sugar range. Also make sure that the bed you are sleeping on is comfortable enough for better results.
Blood Sugar Monitoring Techniques
Monitoring techniques such as glucometers or continuous glucose monitors can provide valuable insights into our blood sugar ranges (4). These tools allow us to track fluctuations and respond accordingly by adjusting diet, exercise, or medication. In addition, these technologies can also identify patterns of high or low readings that may be indicative of underlying health conditions.
It is essential to remember regular checkups with your healthcare provider are crucial for optimal care management as the best treatment plan will vary from individual case to individual.
The Impact of Fiber on Blood Sugar Control
Fiber plays a critical role in regulating blood sugar levels. Foods high in fiber, such as fruits and vegetables, slow down digestion and absorption rates (5). This delay allows glucose levels to remain more stable throughout the day. Additionally, insoluble fibers stimulate peristalsis which can prevent digestive problems associated with diabetes.
Increasing your daily intake of dietary fiber through whole foods like legumes or psyllium husk will improve insulin sensitivity thus contributing positively towards better overall health outcomes.
