Modification of the definition of the concept of "medium-dry" (demi-sec)

MODIFICATION OF THE DEFINITION OF THE CONCEPT OF “MEDIUM-DRY” (DEMI SEC)

THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY,

In view of article 2, paragraph 2 iv of the agreement dated 3rd April 2001, by which the International Organization of Vine and Wine was founded,

Taking into account the resolution Oeno 18/73 and the resolution Eco 3/2003 concerning the complementary definitions relating to sugar content

CONSIDERING the International standard for the labelling of wines of the OIV, following a proposal made by the expert groups “Technology” and “Law and consumer information”, 

DECIDE to replace the definition of the concept of “Medium dry” in the International Code of Oenological Practices and in the OIV “International Standard for the Labelling of Wines” with the following definition:

  1.  In the second bullet point of part I, Chapter 3, file 3.2 of the International Code of Oenological Practices
  2. In the second bullet point of number 3.1.6 of the first part of the International Standard for the Labelling of Wines 

Medium dry, when the sugar content of the wine is higher than the sugar content indicated under the first bullet point and does not exceeds

  • 12 g/l or
  • 18 g/l, when the difference between the sugar content and the level of total acidity expressed in g/l of tartaric acid does not exceed 10g/l
