RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE O.I.V. AND THE W.T.O. AND SOME OF ITS SUBSIDIARY BODIES

THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY,

IN VIEW of the proposal of the Executive Committee,

CONSIDERING the necessity to harmonize the positions of the different intergovernmental organizations in the vitivinicultural sector in order to avoid any duplication of work which would mobilize the same experts,

CONSIDERING the competence acquired by the O.I.V. since its creation which currently constitutes the « international reference » for all topics related to the vine and its derivated products,

CONSIDERING the interest in the development of exchange of information at a global level, between international organizations as well as delegates and experts of the Member States,

IN VIEW of annex 3 of the Rules of the Ministerial Conference and meetings of the General Council of the World Trade Organisation of 25 July 1996, concerning the observer status of international intergovernmental organisations,

COMMISSIONS the Director General to present an official written request for observer status to the W.T.O. and its following subsidiaries bodies:

• The General Council,
• The Council of the Trade-Related Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS)
• The Sanitary and Phytosanitary Committee (SPS)
• The Technical Barriers to Trade Committee (TBT)

ENTRUSTS the Director General with engaging in all necessary exchange of views with the W.T.O. and the concerned subsidiary bodies, in view of the conclusion of a draft cooperation agreement, to be submitted to the General Assembly, notably defining the scope of action, the procedures and the conditions of a cooperation between each one of them and the O.I.V.
