International Diploma of the OIV in Management of the Vine and Wine Sector
The OIV considers that the training and expertise of vine and wine sector professionals is fundamental to the sector’s sustainability. Particularly in terms of those involved in:
1 - The development of products derived from grapes
2 - Oenological practices
3 - Quality control of the end product and the development process
4 - Interpretation of analysis results
Due to their scientific and technical knowledge supported by relevant qualifications, professionals in the vitivinicultural sector must be able to perform their duties and comply with good practices and business ethics with a view to maintaining product quality and the sector’s sustainability.
In order to define the conditions ensuring the consumer enjoys the sector’s specific quality, through various Resolutions the OIV has introduced duties and training programmes appropriate to wine professionals:
- Resolution 7-1976 (Ljubljana Resolution) - International definition of the title and role of oenologists
- Resolution OENO 2/91 - Basic course required for the training of oenologists
- Resolution OENO 2/92 - Ratification of the international definition of the title and role of oenologists
- Resolution OENO 1/99 - Competence level for wine professionals
- Resolutions ECO 1/2004, ECO 2/2004, ECO 3/2004 and ECO 4/2004 - Competencies required for certificate courses for wine professionals
Lists of vitivinicultural training programmes
Since 2009 the OIV has been surveying its Member States in order to compile a list of specialist courses in the vitivinicultural industry (or significantly incorporating the unique characteristics of the vitivinicultural industry) currently available in those countries.
This work aims to promote international trade and facilitate advice and mobility projects for students and research professors, by providing a structured list of courses on the OIV website.
The training programmes listed must satisfy the following criteria:
- be of university level and type;
- specialise in at least one aspect of the vitivinicultural industry (or significantly incorporate the unique characteristics of the vitivinicultural industry);
- lead to a degree (certificate courses) awarded or recognised by a university body or a public body at university level;
- be recognised as worthy of inclusion on an international OIV list by the representative from the government of the Member Country that displays it.

International Diploma of the OIV in Management of the Vine and Wine Sector
“OIV Master of Science in Wine Management”
University postgraduate degree founded in 1986
DESU Bac + 5 Université Paris Ouest Nanterre-La Défense
THE INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY ASSOCIATION OF WINE AND VINE PRODUCTS provides a framework for a sector training programme across several sites in countries involved in wine production, marketing and consumption: “OIV MSc in Wine Management”.
Contrary to generally single discipline multiple sector managerial specialisations, the international OIV diploma is unique, examining the sector’s many facets throughout the curriculum. This programme is therefore open exclusively to future managers and decision makers in the wine sector. The programme spans 16 months, with 28 modules focused on specific themes and a host region which is studied and visited. A university or professional centre organises each module.
The Student and Alumni Association (AED) plays a particularly active and influential role in supporting the students and their projects and in the transition from school to work for recent graduates. With members of 33 nationalities, this creates a practical world information and managerial cooperation network based on the mobility of its participants and the wealth of its intranet.
